ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document.
ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. For detailed information contact the U.S. Department of State.
The implementation of these measures for all land and sea travel to the United States will come into effect as early as January 1, 2008, and no later than June 1, 2009. The exact date of implementation will depend on when the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security meet certain conditions set out by the United States Congress on technology, infrastructure, and training for border officers.
