"Hellcats" Premieres September 8th

"Hellcats", CW's new television series starring Ashley Tisdale, is set in the world of competitive college cheerleading.  Featuring preppy cheerleaders, co-ed living, full contact competition and a tagline of "hell hath no fury like a cheerleader scorned," Vancouver's newest series is sure to attract an audience.  Tom Welling, aka Clark Kent from "Smallville", is a producer of the series and will spend this year pulling double duty as producer of "Hellcats" and the star of "Smallville", now in its 10th season.

The series, which began shooting on July 14th and continues until mid November, has created a lot of excitement in the local dance and cheerleading community.  Paul Becker, the choreographer for "Hellcats" says the series provides great opportunities for local talent.  Auditions for the series were held in July and attracted over 500 performers from across Canada.  According to Becker, "with each episode hiring at least 18 dancers and cheerleaders, and some episodes requiring over 40, there has been a consistent demand for talent each week."

"Hellcats is really pushing the envelope", according to Becker.  "Local cheerleaders from a number of clubs have had the opportunity to work with professional dancers and choreographers.  They've been exposed to a whole side of the industry that they've never seen before and they're getting paid to do what they love."  The series has definately added an exciting new dimension to the local film community and continues to build the talent pool available in BC.

"Hellcats" premieres on Wednesday September 8th on CW at 9pm.
