19th Annual Oppenheimer Park Christmas Dinner
Everyone knows that Christmas is the season for joy and peace. However, the holidays can be a difficult time of year for residents of the Downtown Eastside.

Nineteen years ago, the Oppenheimer Park Christmas dinner was started as a way to brighten the holidays for local residents of the Downtown Eastside and enable members of the film community in Vancouver to give something back to the people of the city who are struggling.
With the help of numerous volunteers, local businesses and dedicated members of Vancouver’s film industry, the Oppenheimer Park Christmas Dinner has expanded from feeding 300 in 1988 to over 2,800 local residents in 2006. Over the years truckloads of clothing, toiletries, warm blankets and winter gear have been distributed to those who may otherwise go without. In addition, the Oppenheimer Park Christmas fund has raised thousands of dollars in charitable donations for several downtown eastside organizations including the Union Gospel Mission, Triage Emergency Services, Carnegie Centre and Powell Place Women’s Shelter. Christmas Dinner will be served on Saturday, December 22nd.
