After scouting several different locations
, the producers found the exact look they had been searching for in the small town of Hope, BC
. Soon after, a cast and crew of about 100 (many of whom still work in the local industry) began to transform
the town into the birthplace of John Rambo
. The Sheriff’s Office, gun shop and gas station were constructed and American flags, mailboxes, and US Army billboards decorated the downtown streets.
Despite bitter cold
, theft of over 50 firearms
, Stallone's cracked ribs and the escape of a wild boar, First Blood
was a major box office success
, earning a record breaking $14.8 million
in the first 12 days of its release in October 1982
. To mark the film’s 25th anniversary,
the Hope Centre & Museum Complex
is celebrating the occasion with a number of events and activities over the October 5-7th Thanksgiving weekend
Anniversary celebration plans
include a welcome reception
at a Hope pub, a special film screening
and premiere of the REEL PLACES "First Blood" documentary
, film location tours, a Rambo look-a-like contest, a pig roast dinner and the publication of a souvenir "First Blood"
booklet as a keepsake.
Anyone who would like to contribute stories, photos or trivia
for the souvenir booklet is invited to send them to the email address below. The Hope Info Centre
is also encouraging First Blood cast and crew members
to take part in the events celebrating this pivotal film
in BC's production history.
