VICTORIA - A study analyzing the impact of tax credits on B.C.'s film industry has been completed and posted online.

The study was commissioned by the government in March 2005 as a step in assessing the value of government's tax credits for the industry.

The report from InterVISTAS Consulting is available online at Film and Television Industry Review. Some highlights from the executive summary include:

Over 23,900 jobs are directly attributed to the film industry in British Columbia.

There is a significant relationship between production spending and effective labour costs; the more expensive the labour costs, the more likely industry will be to move productions to other locations.

The film/TV industry generates $121 million in tax revenues for the provincial government, and the film/TV industry receives $66 million in tax credits.

The InterVISTAS report is one factor government will consider as it evaluates tax credit incentives for the next fiscal year.
