Film Unions Master Agreement Ratified
Mar 17, 2006
Negotiating producers from the CFTPA -
BC Producers’ Branch and the AMPTP Canadian Affiliates have renewed
agreements with the largest group of film and television employees in
British Columbia. The balloting on the agreement resulted in the
unanimous endorsement of the three-year pact by the memberships of the
three Council-member Unions. The agreement is effective April of 2006
through to April 2009.
The Council member unions are Motion Picture Studio Production Technicians, IATSE Local 891, Teamsters Union Local No. 155, and International Photographers IATSE Local 669.
Through its member Unions, the BC Council of Film Unions represents over 10,000 employees who work behind the scenes in the film and television industry. This agreement is the fifth Master Agreement since the formation of the Council in 1996. These agreements have provided a stable labour relations framework essential to the continued growth of the motion picture industry in British Columbia.
The agreement provides a 3% increase in compensation the first year, a 3.5% increase in April of 2007 and further 3.5% in April of 2008. Also approved is a Supplemental Master Agreement which addresses, through discounted tiers, a broad range of production. This covers lower budgeted features, cable and syndicated television production including Canadian domestic feature and television production at a variety of budget levels. The agreement is expected to stimulate continued growth in the British Columbia film and television industry.
