1. Independent Film Makers Submission Form.We welcome all categories of films from indigenous film makers, or collaborations with indigenous talent in key creative roles.
2. Student and Youth Films Submission Form. Youth Films can compete for scholarships and recognition awards in a number of categories, but only if they are submitted as youth films. All films competing must have been completed within the previous year, 2009-2010.
Please note that there are categories in the youth film makers program that encourage intercultural film making projects. Submissions for the Cowichan International Aboriginal Film Festival are open to Indigenous filmmakers and media artists worldwide; work by non-Indigenous filmmakers may be considered if the content is specific to the indigenous peoples of Canada.
Films competing for awards must have been completed within the calendar year and have a minimum of 75% of Indigenous persons in key creative roles. Committees of volunteers active in the film and media arts industry are responsible for programming for the festival.
The content and type of films submitted help to guide the theme of the festival. Programmers may choose films from guest artists outside of those submitted in order to round out the program. The Cowichan International Aboriginal Film Festival is a festival which promotes exposure to and understanding of aboriginal cultures and concerns.
In our 6th year, all eligible entries will be competing for the following recognition; The 2010 Cowichan International Aboriginal Film Festival Best Film Award and The 2010 Cowichan International Aboriginal Film Festival People’s Choice Award.
