21st Oppenheimer Park Christmas Dinner
Saturday, December 19th. 2009
12:00 Noon
In 1988 The Oppenheimer Park Christmas Dinner began by helping Sister Hilda and the New Hope Centre
feed the homeless, and in 1992 the Oppenheimer Park Christmas fund was created. Over our twenty-year history
we’ve served an average of 3,000 meals each year with the help of hundreds of volunteers, the film industry
community and local businesses. This year we need your help again and hope you can join us! There are more
challenges than ever for the Downtown Eastside, and your support in any way is appreciated.
This year marks our 21st anniversary, and it also marks a year with some changes:
- Oppenheimer Park is under temporary construction so we are moving one block north to Alexander and
- Dunlevy (see map below).
- Accordingly, we are scaling back the clothing donations this year to focus on gloves, hats and socks only.
- We’ve been asked by the Health Authority to cook the turkeys in commercial kitchens if possible. There
- are facilities offering to help us with this, so we won’t need individual turkey-cookers.
- We are asking for donations of baked goods instead of turkey-cooking help. Please confirm your baking
- participation in advance so we know whether more baked goods need to be purchased.
