Thirty years ago, the BC Film Commission was established and in the decades to follow BC’s motion picture industry flourished beyond expectations. Rewind to 1978, when the BCFC attracted its first feature and translated the coup into $12.5 million in production in its first year. Since then, the BC Film Commission has worked closely with an ever expanding production community that grew in numbers and expertise with every new film and television project that came to BC.
A talented roster of dedicated professionals -- from assistant directors and cast to production managers and designers, carpenters, sound technicians, accountants and a host of others -- honed their respective crafts in an industry that has been building a unique contribution to British Columbia's economic and creative landscape ever since. Their energy, actions, and commitment through the years have led to the industry’s outstanding success and played a major role in the development of Vancouver and the province as the third largest production centre in North America.
The BC Film Commission wishes to acknowledge and thank the pioneers of this industry, whose contributions have made possible our rich 30 year history in British Columbia. Each and every member of BC's production community among cast and crew, suppliers, communities and government agencies have worked together to make the industry the success story it is today.
